For 20 years, I’ve had the luxury of supplying the soundtrack to thousands of events at bars, clubs, parties and weddings in Pittsburgh. Speaking of weddings, I’ve been lucky enough to have some of the best couples, who propelled me The Knot’s Best of Weddings – DJ each year since 2019 and finally a spot in the rafters in the Hall of Fame in 2022. If you ask around to your family or friends, I’m sure some have attended parties that I’ve been on the 1s and 2s.

Thanks to diverse and lengthy career in this business, I have the skillset to read crowds, which provides comfortability DJing for any audience in any environment.

THE DIFFERENCE

Every couple, every client, every event

In order to understand services, let’s categorize them as PLANNING, EMCEEING, DEEJAYING AND PARTY ENVIRONMENT.

I take great pride in the PLANNING aspect of events and weddings because this is where I learn the most about the client, the guests, and their expectation for the event at hand. Each and every couple I work with, I provide a guide/questionnaire which allows them to provide all of the relevant information to their wedding, such as songs, people, timing, and location. By understanding all these aspects prior to your wedding, I am fully prepared for anything once the event begins.

On the EMCEEING side of your event, I’m only on the mic when it’s necessary. I’m not a hype man or making an announcement every other song or playing games with guests. I provide all the relevant information to guests about the logistics of the wedding, any important information that the couple wants me to relay to them and giving them a heads up when events are about to begin.

The aspect I look forward to the most is when I get to hop on the turntables, be a real DJ and make people dance. I always consider couples’ likes and dislikes, as well as any other relevant information to ensure the soundtrack of the party reflects the couple, but also keeps guests wiping sweat off their brow and getting a workout on the dancefloor.

Aesthetics are important, but moreover no one wants a party ENVIRONMENT with either no lights or a fully lit room. I always provide lighting which accents the venue aesthetic and the dancefloor, but isn’t overwhelming for people to continue to have a great time. Additionally, all the equipment used is top of the line, from speakers and microphones to turntables and mixer. Furthermore, it's all tied together on a sleek, handbuilt, oak podium.

Coordination
Unmatched organization & preparedness for a worry free event.

From the moment the contract is signed, Tony gets to work with providing clients a gameplan for a W on the big day. Typically, a Zoom call or meeting starts the journey by explaining how to plan, as well as complementary forms and guides to assist in crafting a personalized event.

Many times clients are overwhelmed or aren't sure where to begin. By providing an outline, it allows Tony to learn more about the client, as well as answer any questions and provide advice on how to go about the planning process.

About 4-6 weeks prior to the event, an intense planning meeting is conducted to organize the provided information into a timeline down to the minute, which includes every person needed, correct pronunciation of names and song choices needed throughout the event.
DJ
No hype man. No games. Strictly seamless transitions & constant bangers.

You booked a DJ, not 1990's wedding DJ. My main objective when the dancefloor opens up is to curate a soundtrack reflective of the client(s) and reading the crowd to know when to play the right song. Moreover, keeping the dancefloor full with seamless transitions from one song to another, as well as bouncing around from different decades and genres.

The basis of DJing is understanding how to beat match songs, so when you transition from one to another there isn't a major vibe change from a very slow song to a faster song or vice versa. Also, the tempo of consecutive songs keeps the energy going at full throttle for guests to have the most memorable time at a DJ Crush event.
Emcee
Ensuring the entire party is in the know, but not an overwhelming amount of self-promotion.

There isn't a soul on the planet that wants to hear a DJ on the microphone over and over again directing traffic on the dancefloor. The most important aspect of emceeing is providing substance and worth when you're on the microphone.

When I'm on the microphone there's a purpose to provide the party with relevant information about the event. Whether it's welcoming guests and giving a lay of the land or letting partygoers know that the clients are asking for certain folks to be on the dancefloor, all of the mic work is relevant to clients goal for the evening.

Now this isn't to say I don't get on the microphone or there aren't instances that would reflect hyping up certain individuals or groups, but the frequency and type of speaking aspects are always relevant to party.

And there is never, e-e-e-evvvver shameless self-promotion. I allow my work to speak for me. If I provide a great service to clients and their guests, that's the only promotion I need.
Lighting
Setting the tone with an environment that implores guests to let their guard down & let loose.

Whether it be a corporate event, wedding or birthday, no one wants to dance in a fully lit room where you can see everyone's maybe not-so-hot dance moves or a pitch black room where your dance moves end up causing you to hip check grandma across the floor.

At every event, I provide a collection of lighting that varies from wash lights that fill the room with an assortment of colors and change dependent on the bass from the music. Also, there are moving head lights that bounce around the room to make the dance floor just bright enough, but add a welcoming, vibrant environment in a blanket of major jams.

In some cases, clients look for some extra lighting to highlight the venue or certain aspects of their setting through uplighting or perhaps a custom monogram. At an extra cost, these too can be a part of your event.
Professional Setup
The equipment is top notch & the visual presentation matches the service.

Every piece of equipment, from the Technics turntables or Pioneer Controller to the ElectroVoice or QSC speakers down to the Sennheiser and Audio Technica mics, everything is industry standard and maintained regularly.

In addition to providing incredible sound equipment, the main setup is condensed into a sleek, handmade, red oak podium style setup which prevents an eyesore at your event.

Also, many venues require wireless speaker setups to ensure the entire group of guests can hear announcements, speeches and toasts. While uncommon to many DJ's this feature offers a minimal setup, which can be placed nearly anywhere in the main room or adjoining rooms. By doing so, the entire party is always a part of the celebration.
Experience
20+ years filling dancefloors, regardless of demographic or music choices

Not to say that experience is the only or main measuring stick when selecting a DJ, but it certainly helps to have someone that's been around the block.

Whether it be having worked at a certain venue before or with specific vendor(s), it gives the DJ a leg up over others knowing how sound travels in a room and the logistics of the venue. Not to mention, if a DJ is a veteran in the game, there's a much higher chance that they've seen a lot and are able to prevent issues from occurring before they do or finding a solution when they do occur much quicker than a rookie or novice.

Experience in terms of time is great, but when it's coupled with types of events, different genres of music and a variety of guest demographics, it's multiplied ten-fold. While I've been DJing since 2004, there's not much I haven't seen. From bars to clubs to graduations and retirements or of course my forte, weddings and corporate events, I know my way around event planning and providing clients with the assurance I can keep the party going under just about any circumstance.

If I was only allowed to give one piece of advice to future brides and grooms, it would be this.. hire good vendors. DJ Crush is all that, and then some! He met with us multiple times before our wedding to really make sure he knew us as a couple. He completely customized our day and didn't just show up and play music. By the end of the night, he was probably sick of me because I just kept telling him that he was amazing. Because he was. He is a DJ who definitely knows how to get the party started. After the wedding, people just raved about how much fun they had and I give all the credit to Tony. He went above and beyond the entire night. He truly cared about our day and took care of things that most DJs wouldn't even worry about. When the wedding coordinators fell short (and they definitely did), Tony jumped right in to make sure that our night went as smooth as possible. Initially we had DJ Crush or Tony Griffith for our wedding. He was able to make the change of date to be with us and changed around his own plans to do so! However, when we were told that we could only have a limited amount of guests at our wedding, we scaled everything down and changed the time of our ceremony. Tony, himself, was unable to make these changes after he had already bent over backwards for us before. (Which we can’t thank him enough for) BUT, he had a backup: DJ Ricky Mathews or The Rick. Rick stepped up and gave us the most memorable day ever! We met him about a month before the wedding and we gave him an idea of the music we wanted, and he went with it and was amazing to work with! Since we didn’t have a reception with all of our guests, we had a small and quick dance party after dinner that was an absolute blast! I told Rick that we were going to have a party bus for the bridal party afterwards and he went and made an entire mixtape just for us! He nailed it!! Long story short- I KNOW that Tony would do everything in his power to make your day amazing as well!! Huge thanks to the both of them for being so gracious and accommodating! DJ Crush was phenomenal! My husband and I cannot say enough good things about his DJ’ing- from the planning and time spent chatting with us over the phone and FaceTime beforehand to the day of coordination to the awesome music played- Tony did it all superbly. When the order of events at the reception looked like they might have to be swapped, Tony went with the flow and orchestrated the evening with ease, making us more relaxed and able to enjoy the evening. He helped us create a truly awesome night, playing songs that got our whole crew (including grandparents, little cousins, AND several “non dancers”) out on the dance floor all night! We never once had less than a full dance floor. People were blown away by how much fun they had and how great the DJ was! Finally, not to be left out, Tony’s planning checklist and dedication to his craft and pre-planning really set him apart in our eyes. We would definitely hire him again if we have another large event in Pittsburgh!

He made sure to ask about the ages of the couple, the majority of guests, and parents, so as to be sure to hit the right years when playing those throwback songs everyone loves to sing along to. While I was busy playing host all night and so didn't get to dance as much as I had wanted, my guests have remarked that the dance floor was packed all night, so I'll that as a good sign. :-) I would happily work with Tony again!

This is LONG overdue, but Tony is seriously the BEST! I was a guest at a wedding almost 2 years ago where Tony was the DJ and I didn't leave without asking for this contact information. He started the party and kept it going until we were all forced to leave. I wasn't even engaged yet but i knew I needed him to be the DJ at my wedding. Not only did he play the best music, he was also an AMAZING MC! This is something I think people often forget when booking their DJ because he/she is truly the organizer of the night. Being fun, organized, and engaging is SUPER IMPORTANT! Now for our wedding, Tony did not disappoint! He was so nice and fun ever since we first met with him to discuss our wedding reception. We could tell from the beginning that he was not only a great person but also very professional. He has his stuff together! He will provide not only song suggestions, but he has the entire reception outlined and broken down in a easy-to-use word document so you can select the music for everything from bridal party introductions all the way to the last song of the night. My husband and I loved meeting with him and talking through our ideas and taking his suggestions. You truly knows what he is doing. He was super accommodating and didn't even bat an eye when we showed up to our reception a little late than expected from pictures. He let us catch our breath while effortlessly getting everyone together and organized for the bridal party introductions. We really do appreciate him for that! During our reception, he was fun and engaging throughout the entire night. Just like the wedding I first met Tony, he got that party started and never let it stop. I was just BLOWN AWAY by the number of people constantly on the dance floor. We had people dancing on the carpet because the floor wasn't big enough to handle the fun! Tony took our song suggestions and knew when to play each one to keep people dancing! I seriously couldn't imagine our night with Tony! He even was able to get everyone together for our exit from the reception and people are STILL talking about how "Epic" it was! No one wanted the night to be over. That honestly was my only regret...that the night was not long enough! Please, please, consider Tony for your wedding! I do not think I will ever meet another DJ and person like him. When couples are getting into booking their vendors, a lot ask if the vendor(s) have worked at their selected venue. While it is helpful for your vendors to have worked at your venue before, it's not the end all be all.
